He also sees beyond the lens debate: "It is not fussy with lenses; I didn't find any difference concerning image quality when shooting with Leica or Voigtlander lenses. As the image processing on this camera is geared towards a particular style, this seems to be more dominant than the characteristic of any lens that one cares to put on it.". R-D1 JPEGs require little post-processing, due, according to Danny, to the excellence of the R-D1 image processing engine:

"I shoot a lot with 28mm at full aperture (f1.9 Voigtlander). This is a massive departure to the normal digital compacts, or even the DX size chip, since most have very small apertures, leading to greater depth of field, which makes them all look the same." He adds: "The camera takes great low light photographs. When set to 1600 ASA, images are full of detail and sharpness which is more impressive than with film."

Danny usually changes cameras frequently. Ask him what he'll replace his R-D1 with and the answer is quick and definite: "An R-D2! And I'll be keeping my R-D1 too!"
